Cheesy Broccoli Bread Bowl - 15 Minute Meal


Serves: 2 bread bowls - Prep time: 10 minutes - Baking time: 5 minutes - Total time: 15 minutes


  • 2 small round bread loaves (kaiser roll or another)
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp all purpose flour
  • 150 ml milk
  • pinch salt and ground black pepper
  • 70 g shredded cheese


1. Preheat the oven to 220C(428F).

2. In a small sauce pan, add water and broccoli florets. Bring to a boil. Simmer for about 4-5 minutes. Remove drom heat and drain the broccoli. Set aside.

3. Heat a medium sauce pan over medium, melt butter. When butter has completely melted add flour. Whisk until smooth, about 2 minutes. Whisk in the milk. Whisking constantly. The sauce should be thick enough to coat the back of a wooden spoon. Season with ground nutmeg, salt and grated parmesan. Add the broccoli florets and cook for another 3-4 minutes.

4. Cut a slice off the top of each bread loaf; hollow out bottoms, leaving 1/4-in.-thick shells. Stuff the shells and place in preheated oven for about 5 minutes. Serve warm.
