Dutch apple turnovers 'appelflappen'


Dutch puff pastry apple pie recipe

makes 8 pies

8 sheets of puff pastry
2 medium apples, peeled and cored
50 gr raisins
1 tsp ground cinnamon
pinch ground ginger
pinch ground nutmeg
Brush with: water
80 gr sugar


1.Peel, core and dice the apples into small pieces, combine the apples, raisins, cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg; set aside.
2.Preheat oven: line a baking sheet with parchment paper and preheat oven to 220c/430f.
3.If using fridge cold pastry allow to sit at room temperature for 5 to 10 minutes. fill the center of each square with about 2 teaspoons of the apple mixture fold the pastry over so the edges meet, then crimp the edges with a fork. Brush with water and sprinkle with sugar.

4. Bake the pies; Place in preheated oven and bake until golden brown about 15-20 minutes.
