Homemade Popeyes Buns | Episode 519

Ingredients
- 260 ml water, lukewarm
- 14g active dry yeast
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1,5 tsp salt
- 100 ml sunflower oil
- 500g all-purpose flour
- 1 egg yolk + 1 tbsp water for top
Method
1. In a large mixing bowl, stir together the lukewarm water, yeast and sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes.
Add the flour, oil and salt to the mixing bowl and knead for at least 5 minutes or until smooth.
2. Cover the bowl and let sit for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
3. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface. Use your hands to gently pat and stretch the dough rounds into 10-12 flat disc shapes about 75g each. Arrange buns about 1/2 inch apart on lined baking sheets and flatten lightly with your hands. Cover and allow to rise for about 45 minutes.
4. Preheat the oven to 200 C / 390 F.
5. Stir together the egg yolk and water. Brush top of each dough with the egg.
6. Bake in preheated oven for about 18-20 minutes or until golden to deep brown.
7. Let the buns cool down before using or freezing.
You can save the burger buns for up to 3 months in the freezer.
