Semolina Cookies - Turkish Sekerpare Dessert - Ramadan Recipes



For the syrup
330 g granulated sugar
400 ml water
1/4 lemon juice

For the dough
2 eggs
100 g butter
100 ml vegetable oil
3 tbsp powdered sugar
2 tbsp coconut flakes
2 tbsp semolina
1 sachet vanilla sugar, 8 g
1 sachet baking powder, 15 g
400 gr all purpose flour

For the top
1 egg yolk
1 tbsp vegetable oil

For decorating
nuts and pistachios


1. Make the syrup: Pour the water in a cooking pot and add the sugar.Cook them with mixing.Once it starts to boil, stir in the lemon juice. Boil for another 5 minutes over medium heat. Set aside

2. Make the dough: In a large bowl, combine the eggs and butter until smooth. Add the oil, powdered sugar, coconut, semolina, vanilla and baking powder. Keep kneading with adding flour.
Dough should be the consistency of your earlobe.

3. Preheat your oven to 180C (356F) and oil grease a baking tray with oil. Combine the egg yolk and oil.

4. Roll dough into walnut size flatten lightly with your hands, place on greased bakin gtray. Brush top of each ball of dough with egg wash. Decorate with nuts. Bake in preheated oven for about 20 to 25 minutes.

5. Remove from oven and pour the syrup over the cookies(warm).
