How to make: Pita Bread


Pita bread recipe.


1 tbsp dry yeast (7 gr)
310 ml warm water
1 tsp salt
425 gr all purpose flour


Dissolve yeast in water for about 5 minutes in a large bowl.
Add salt and 200 gr flour knead with your hand.

Add additional flour until a rough, shaggy mass is formed.
Knead 8 minutes until dough is smooth and elastic.
Add more flour if it is too sticky.

Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and divide into 12 pieces for small pitas or into 6 pieces for large pittas.

Form dough into balls, then flatten with a rolling pin into 1/4 inch thick discs.

Let rest on the floured surface 30-40 minutes until slightly puffed.

Preheat oven to 220 c / 425 f
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Flip the rounds of dough upside down on to a baking sheet.
Bake 10-15 minutes until light golden.

After baking, brush with water.

These store for up to two days well wraped or frozen for three weeks.
