Hamburger Buns Recipe


YIELD: makes 7 Large Buns or 9 Medium Buns 
Prep Time: 2 h M - Cook Time: 20 M - Total Time: 2 h 20 M


  • 240 ml milk, lukewarm
  • 7 g dry yeast
  • 12 g white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 28 g butter, softened
  • 410 g all purpose flour
  • 8 g salt
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
For the topping:
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • sesame seeds


1. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the milk, yeast ans sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes.
Add the egg and butter, stir until combined. Stir in half of the flour and salt. Add the remaining flour and knead until a smooth ball of dough begins to form. Add more flour if dough is to sticky. Oil your hands and knead the dough for 2-3 minutes more.
2. Place the dough in a oiled bowl and cover. Let sit for 60 minutes or until doubled in size.
3. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Use your hands to gently pat and stretch the dough rounds into 7 flat disc shapes about 1/2 inch thick. Flatten lightly with your hands. Arrange buns about 1/2 inch apart on prepared baking sheet. Cover and let sit for about 60 minutes more or until doubled in size.
4. Brush top of each bun with beaten egg and sprinkle some sesame seeds on top.
5. Bake in preheated oven 220C 428F for about 15 minutes or until golden to deep brown.
